Wilson’s Tales of the Borders (revival edition Volume 3)

In this third volume of the Revival Edition, we’ve widened the community involvement in rediscovering these historic stories of Scotland. As in past volumes, local writers have retold selected Tales in more modern style, with accompanying essays on their historic context. In addition, we invited young local artists to contribute illustrations.

This volume includes three of the original Tales rewritten and researched:

The Vacant Chair was the very first Wilson’s Tale, setting the scene of the area’s cross-border personalities and attitudes. It involves loss, love, adventure and bravery as characters get unwittingly caught-up in the Napoleonic wars.

The Sea Skirmish is based on a true encounter of David and Goliath dimensions.

The Guid Wife of Coldingham encompasses many issues still relevant today – in particular the Anglo-Scottish relationship, independence, and how one reacts to an occupying force.
